The Black Ash Media Cabinet:
Where Precision Meets Performance
This bespoke media cabinet exemplifies the Hykel Carpentry philosophy: furniture designed to serve a specific function while acting as a bold, artistic centerpiece.
Commissioned for a Bristol client, this piece features a robust body crafted from Black Valchromat, which I then enhanced the colour further by staining it black, and finishing it with Osmo hard wax oil. The top surface is finished with sleek black glass, adding a protective modern layer.
Precision Joinery for Modern Living: The true artistry is showcased in the doors. Built from stained black Ash, they feature a modern reinterpretation of the classic louvre design. This is a complex and precision piece of joinery, resulting in a textured, rhythmic surface that elevates the cabinet from storage unit to sculptural installation.
Crucially, the gaps between the louvre slats are intentionally sized to be fully functional. This smart design allows media boxes (like Sky or Apple TV) to be housed discreetly inside, yet still be fully operable by remote control without ever needing to open the doors. This perfect fusion of form and function earned the finished cabinet a 5-star review from the delighted client.
